Helioscope is a free educational visualisation of the solar system. Planet positions are calculated from published Keplerian orbital elements and are approximations intended for learning. They are suitable for education and general interest, not for telescope pointing, navigation, observation planning or scientific research. Sizes, distances and speeds on screen are deliberately compressed, and the tool says so.
You may use the tool for personal, educational and non-commercial purposes in its hosted form. Please do not copy, modify, redistribute or misrepresent it, remove notices from it, or attempt to interfere with its operation. Venues and organisations interested in licensing or commissioned versions are welcome to get in touch.
The design, text, graphics and code of this tool are the property of Notla Ventures Limited unless otherwise stated. Underlying astronomical constants and orbital elements are factual data and belong to no one.
The tool is provided free of charge, as is and as available. We do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error free. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under the law of England and Wales, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of a free educational tool. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections of, and may bring proceedings in, your home nation.
We may update these terms from time to time. The date above shows the current version. Continued use of the tool after a change means you accept the updated terms.
This tool does not collect your personal data. Everything it does happens in your browser. There are no accounts, no forms, no tracking scripts, no advertising and no third-party requests of any kind, including fonts.

The site is hosted by Netlify. Like almost all web hosts, Netlify's infrastructure records standard server logs when a page is requested, which can include your IP address, browser type, the time of the request and the page requested. These logs exist to deliver the site and keep it secure. Our lawful basis for this limited processing under UK GDPR is legitimate interests, namely operating and protecting the service. Logs are held briefly by Netlify as our hosting provider and are not used by us to identify visitors. Netlify may process this data on infrastructure outside the UK, subject to the safeguards required by UK data protection law.
You have rights under UK data protection law, including the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability. Because we hold no personal data about visitors, there will usually be nothing for us to act on, but you can raise anything with us at contact@notlalearn.com. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
This tool is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children.
If our practices ever change, we will update this policy before the change takes effect. The date above shows the current version.
This site sets no cookies. Not analytics cookies, not advertising cookies, not functional cookies. It also uses no comparable technologies: no localStorage, no sessionStorage and no fingerprinting. Neither we nor our hosting provider set cookies through this site.
There is nothing to consent to and nothing to decline, which is why you have not seen a cookie banner. The tool remembers nothing about you between visits, by design.
If a future version of this tool needed a cookie or similar technology for some feature, we would update this policy first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before setting anything.
